Noah, we are so glad you came to join our family a year ago today!

Happenings
We had a parent/teacher interview with Zeke’s teachers at preschool this week. I am so glad we decided to send Zeke to preschool this year. He has grown up so much and has gained so much self-confidence! At the interview they gave us a whole package of things that Zeke had made or worked on. Included in the package was Zeke’s “Friend List.” On his friend list was “Bennett, Drew and Brian” and his teachers wanted me to know that every child included Zeke on their “Friend list.” What a great honor! I love it!
I volunteered at Elijah’s school today. His school strongly encourages parent involvement – which I absolutely love. I try to go most Thursdays. It’s so fun to see Elijah “in his element” – he is an excellent student and loves to learn. And I really enjoy kids his age. I think I’ll be a Kindergarten teacher when I grow up!
Also “happening” – our family has had a great time this week participating in “National TV Turn Off Week.” Most of our friends thought we were nuts, but it’s been really refreshing! The other night my four boys tossed a ball back and fourth and they just talked (okay, so Noah didn’t talk, but he’s got a really good arm!). Imagine! There’s no telling what will happen when the TV is covered up with a blanket!
Jessica Simpson on Laundry
“It’s actually kind of fun to sort out the dirty laundry and put it in the washer and dryer. But then you have to fold it all and put it away.”
Jessica, I couldn’t agree with you more!
Check out this pile of clean clothes that I have to fold and put away! Maybe I should do laundry more often than once a week?
New Summer Dos and Duds
I gave all three boys haircuts this morning. Yeah, that’s always fun. Every time I do it I swear it’s the last, but then when I comtemplate spending almost $40 on such a thing, I recant. I know, I’m such a cheapskate. I’m always impressed with the results though. Don’t they look good?
And thanks Mom for the new summer clothes. They fit great!
P.S. Who do you think Noah looks more like – Elijah or Zeke? It’s funny, but in pictures he seems to look more like Zeke to me, but in “real life” like Elijah.
The Great Space Adventure
<img id="image99"
“One day Elijah and Zeke, Gabrielle and Hanakah went in a spaceship. They saw a nice alien. It was on the biggest, reddest planet in space. And then a great big, bad alien came and picked Gabrielle up and it shaked her. And then she kicked it and sent it flying through space. Then Gabrielle hopped back in. Then the spaceship went flying through space peacefully. The End.”

Our Sidewalk Piano Playing Son
We had a piano donated to us that was black, but for some reason someone painted it beige with speckles. When the little girl next door saw it she said, “Why is this piano made out of a sidewalk?” Why indeed.
Here is a short film “Delete It” that stars Elijah playing that very piano. He has been taking lessons since last fall.
Canon in D
If Janet and I ever renew our vows this guy will replace Renee, as the one who plays Canon in D, as Janet walks down the aisle.
The train is leaving the station

Google, finally, launched their calendar last week and it is so sweet! Thanks to DiggNation‘s Alex and Kevin, I have just imported my entire MS Outlook calendar and I will soon see if I am indeed free of Outlook. I have been forwarding all my email accounts to Gmail for a couple months and that’s been cool, but my calendar was one of the major hurdles to ditching Outlook for good. Gmail allows me to accept (or decline) an appointment that was generated in Outlook and automatically sends it Google Calendar. So sweet! Just yesterday, I was tied to my employer‘s internal network for sending and receiving appointments. Now, I don’t see any reason to ever be at my desk again…well, I do have to figure out how to forward my office phone to my cell phone…then…ah, yes…then…I will be free.
I may spend days on end now at Dunn Bros. Long live free wireless!
We're At Their Mercy…
…United States Citizenship and Immigration Services’ (USCIS) that is. I finally had my long awaited interview with them today. It lasted all of about 10 minutes and I feel no further ahead in this immigration process than I was yesterday. The interviewer said everything on our end was set, but the background checks have yet to be run, and untill they run them, my case would be pending. “How long?” we asked. “I’m unable to give a timeframe,” she said, “but it could take up to a year.” Great!
None of this would really matter to me except that I’m unable to travel outside of the US while my case is pending, so…I might have a couple weeks to myself this summer while the rest of my family is in Canada (we already bought plane tickets!). I did just pay $130 for a travel document, which I was led to believe would allow me to travel with a pending application, but I found out today it doesn’t apply to my situation! Argh! Oh well. I’m done venting. Let’s just pray for a speedy resolution to all this.
Who Needs Roses?
I’d much rather have a bouquet of dandelions.
Elijah picked me these on the way home from school today.
