The other night at a prayer meeting at our church, many people went to the altar for prayer. Elijah whispered, “I want to go forward for prayer.” “For what?” I whispered back. “I don’t know,” he replied, “I just want Pastor Matt to pray for me.” My first instinct was to say, “No you can’t go up there.” What if he got up there and acted silly? What will people think? He persisted, and I let him go, and it was precious. I still don’t know if he really felt he needed a touch from the Lord, or if he just wanted to be up front. Maybe it was the wrong decision – a mistake. But if I’m going to be making mistakes as a mother, I want these to be the kinds of mistakes I make.

I’ve loved the music that Marty Sampson and Joel Houston have been writing in the last year. They are the leaders of United which is the youth worship band from Hillsong church in Sydney, Australia. On Tuesday night they played at 722 in Atlanta, GA. Click here and enjoy the webstream. It’s pretty cool and pretty raw at the same time.
At a mom’s group I was at this morning we talked about how Satan, as the father of Lies, loves to fill mother’s heads with untruth. Since it would be a little weird to start a conversation with, “Hello, and what new lies has Satan been feeding to you lately?” we all think that others are fine – that we are the only ones feeling less than. So our small group is compiling a list of lies. We’re going to put them in a pamphlet form, and share them with each other so that we can stand together against our enemy. Feel free to contribute a lie that I can add to the list.
Added April 6th. Here are a few lies that I have believed in my six years of being a Mom. – She has lost all her “baby weight” and her baby is only a month old! I should look like her. – Why isn’t my baby doing that? He should be. – I’m so busy and tired. God doesn’t mind if I don’t spend time in the Word (This one is tricky, because it’s partially true. God is full of grace in this area, but…well, come on). – She’s got everything together. Look at her kids. They’re perfect. – Read lots of parenting books. (This is not intrinsically wrong, but it can distract us from what we – what I - need to be doing more for our kids: Praying for them.
Noah is our first sumb thucker – I mean thumb sucker. We love it. There is nothing quite as sweet as a chubby baby with thier thumb in their mouth. Especially when they are your third, and they’ve learned to put themselves to sleep when they’re just a month old by sucking on thier built in soother…and not on me. Anyway, he’s been doing it less and less, and I had a shocking realization: we have no pictures of Noah sucking his thumb. So we took one and here it is. Sweet baby boy.
Pistachio, Pistachio, how I love thee, Pistachio. We just discovered this Ben & Jerry’s pistachio ice cream last week and so far 6 pints have been left in our wake. Try it if you dare.

Ok, so I’m not much of computer guru. In fact I’d say that I quite dislike them. And I admit I thought the hours that Dave spent getting this website up and running were a waste of time, but I have had a change of heart. Our little domain in cyberspace is impressive! And even if I am the only one to ever enjoy it, it is totally worth it! I am especially excited to document things about our children. The proud moments, the calamities, the hilariousness and embarrassments of having young children need to be savored and remembered! And come to think of it, even the seemingly mundane. So hopefully…maybe?…this website will help us do that. I want it to.
It’s that time of year again…the time of year that the boys of the Horsman house get to shower our queen with gifts, affection, and food. Although, come to think of it, it’s not much different than all the other days of the year. We celebrated a day early this year because tomorrow is Sunday. A busy working day for Dave and, especially, for Janet as she gets the 3 boys ready and color coordinated for church!
One of Elijah’s many homemade cards that he made for Mom. It says, “You are the best Mom on the earth”
Leave Janet a birthday wish in the comments if you would like.
