I did a little photo-shoot of Noah this morning. He is wearing a vintage “Tie-Dye One-Piece” by Roots. This is my favorite little summer outfit. My sister Jill gave it to Elijah for his first summer and it’s been worn every summer since.

Last Thursday, Elijah had to be at Hope Presbyterian Church at 4:30 to practice his recital peices. We got a BCOM student that works with Dave – Steven Andrews – to drive him and stay with him so that I could get Noah ready for bed for the babysitter and then arrive shortly before the recital started. Steven needed to rush away when I arrived, so I didn’t get to ask him how Elijah had behaved. When Dave asked him he said, “Oh, he was great. I love Elijah – he’s such a cool kid. He’s so direct.”
Well, what a new and refreshing way to describe Elijah! Direct.
I tend to think of him as a little too mouthy for his own good …but...direct…yeah, I’m goin’ with it! Directness is a wonderful quality to have – although, mind you, it can lead to
some downright embarrassing situations when displayed in a child. (But I learned quite some time ago that if I’m not ok with being embarrassed, I shouldn’t have had kids!) Yes, Elijah definately needs direction and careful guidance in this area – we’re workin’ on it!
I love having people comment on things they see in my children – it’s very enlightening.
In the words of Randy Jackson, “We got a hot one tonight!!” and the night before and the night before that. We slept in the basement of Pastor Matt‘s house last night because they have some sweet AC action, but decided to try and sleep at home tonight thanks to the purchase of an AC unit.

We let Elijah and Zeke camp out last night…on our patio! The giggling and whispering went on way too late, but Dave and I said nothing. We both agree that the late night talks we had with our siblings were the best!
We had talked about really going camping this weekend, but because of Noah’s strange rash and slight fever, we decided against it. Camping this summer could prove to be a lot more challenging then it was last summer though. Last summer Noah was a only few months old and could lay happily in his Pack’n'Play under the cover of mosquito netting. Not any more! …Yeah, it might just be Daddy and the two older boys this summer! We’ll see.
Wow, am I glad I’m not a single Mom! How do they do it? If you are a single Mom reading this, God bless you!
Yesterday was my busiest day. We had to get up early, run some errands, get Elijah on the bus at noon, and then Noah and I attended Zeke’s End of Preschool Party. Here are some pictures of him with his teachers.
Then, yesterday evening was Elijah’s first piano recital. There were 80 people there and he was so nervous – the first time he has ever displayed this. His teacher said his hands were visibly trembling as he sat down at the piano, but he sat there with such poise and determination, and played three songs – Sammy the Soccar Star, Have a Ball and Fooba Wooba John – right through! He certainly didn’t play them perfectly, but he didn’t give up or get upset when he made a mistake (as Elijah from a couple years ago would have) and I was so incredibly proud of him! Excellent job Elijah!
Here he is with his teacher Solveig (Sol-vay) playing Fooba Wooba John – it was a duet. (I will get Dave to post some of the video from the recital – it’s so cute! Although, I am aware that it may be something only a Mother could love!)
On top of all this, Noah got the mysterious rash that has been going around to all the babies in our church. Word is that it is viral, and will clear up on it’s own, but I’ve had a pretty cranky boy for the past couple of days. He was pretty good at Zeke’s party though, and I was blessed to be able to have a babysitter for last night.
So, Daddy is back and we are all glad. I hear the birds singing as I type this, and we have a great forcast for Memorial Day weekend – 80′s all the way! Ain’t life grand?!
In the words of Archibald Asparagus, I am…”busy, busy, dreadfully busy, you’ve no idea what (I’ve) got to do. Busy, busy, dreadfully busy – much, much to busy for you!”
My week is jam packed with fun, and to top it off, Dave leaves for Colarado Springs today – with the rest of the church staff – untill Friday.
Will I survive? Check back on Friday for any signs of life.
Finally! Over the weekend we recieved Elijah and Zeke’s American passports by FedEx! It was a very long application process and we’re glad it’s finally over. (Now we can file our ’04 and ’05 taxes – which means $$$!) The next step is to get Noah’s Certificate of Canadian Citizenship and then his Canadian passport. It’s never-ending. But then I will feel left out – everyone in my family will have dual citizenship except me!
P.S. By the way, keep praying that I will recieve my Green Card by July 25th. That’s when our plane tickets to Canada are for!
One of the deepest ways a woman bears the image of God is in her mystery. By “mystery” we don’t mean “forever beyond knowing,” but “something to be explored.” “It is the glory of God to conceal a matter,” says the book of Proverbs, “to search out a matter is the glory of kings” (25:2). God yearns to be known. But He wants to be sought after by those who would know Him. He says, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart” (Jer. 29:13). There is dignity here; God does not throw himself at any passerby. He is no harlot. If you would know Him you must love Him; you must seek Him with your whole heart. This is crucial to any woman’s soul, not to mention her sexuality. “You cannot simply have me. You must seek me, pursue me. I won’t let you in unless I know you love me.”
Noah’s first official word: Ball. It’s very cute – he seems to say it with a southern drawl, and he tries so hard to make the “L” sound at the end, but can’t quite get it. He walks around with this ball saying, “Bawoo.”
Here’s something to think about. I looked back in some baby books to see what Elijah and Zeke’s first words were…
Elijah’s was “Gammie” (for Grammie) and there has always been a very special bond between his Grammie Potter (my mother) and him – even across the miles. Elijah’s other first words were people’s names and the letters of the alphabet – he could recall both uncannily – and he’s such a people person and a great reader.
Zeke’s was “car” and Zeke has always had a facination with vehicles and wheels. He still lies with his face against the floor and watches the wheels of a vehicle turn while he pushes it. And oh boy, if we get stopped at train tracks while a train crosses – Zeke is in heaven!
So maybe Daddy will get the sports nut that he wants in Noah? A son that will sit beside him on the sofa and watch basketball and football?! Hope so! (And frankly, I hope Elijah and Zeke grow into this too!)
Here are the wonderful homemade cards Elijah and Zeke made me for Mother’s Day. They each made me one at school last week, and then they each made one at Sunday School yesterday.
Says a relieved Dave, “Good, I’m off the hook. I don’t like it that I have to get you something for Mother’s Day – you’re not my mother.”
David! You’re such a brat!
