Blue Eyes…Baby’s Got Blue Eyes

Wednesday, June 28th, 2006

Just having some fun experimenting with our new camera. I like this one of Noah. I took it in the car today (on the way home from visiting our brand new niece!). He’s on the brink of protesting (loudly) about being in his car seat for too long; thus the look of disgust.

From The Sally Ann

Wednesday, June 28th, 2006

The Sally Ann…a little place that all campus residents know and love. A place where old and unwanted things are deposited for someone else to enjoy. Of course, it’s always a fun place to visit with the kids. Here are some of the sweet finds that Elijah and Zeke have made. Don’t you love the hot pink roller skates? And what could be more fun than a curly black wig?

By the way, these are some of the first pictures taken with our new camera. Our old one died over the weekend. Technology baffles and frustrates me - we were able to buy a much better camera for quite a bit less then we had paid for our old one!

Mummy: Uh…Know what? It’s exactly four weeks from today!

Elijah: Oh… Four weeks…that’s…that’s 28 days!

Mummy: Yep!

On Friday night, Zeke announced that he would like to try riding a two-wheeler, so Daddy obliged and removed his training wheels. Much to our amazement, after a push from Daddy, he rode strait and steady for a good distance, then applied the brakes and put his feet down on the ground - he’s a natural! Of course, it helps that he’s been riding a bike around campus since he was barely three, but still, I’m in awe - I was almost nine when I learned to ride without training wheels!

Elijah woke me up Saturday morning to tell me that finally…his tooth is loose! He and Gabrielle were the only two kids in their kindergarten class to not lose teeth…and this was especially alarming to Elijah because their class kept a graph of sorts to keep track of who had lost how many teeth. Of course, to my ever competitive son, this was a competition that he had lost!

Meanwhile, Noah had “Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease” - a terrible name for a virus that lasts about a week. It afflicts mostly the mouth with painful ulcers, so he ate only bananas, applesauce and yogurt for the last few days and (for some reason) anything and everything went in his mouth - including this Fudge Cycle stick with a remnant of tasty chocolate still on it. Thankfully, he is back to his happy, ravenous self this morning!

Ahhh, it’s good to be back…on-line that is. Our internet connection was down all weekend, and it’s great to be back in touch with the world again! (Dave wants you all to know that not having internet can make you do strange things…he watched Pride and Prejudice with me last night! I thought it was a wonderful and humerous story! If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it!)

We’d love to hear what things you did this weekend. Let the commenting begin!

“Summer School”

Monday, June 19th, 2006

I have a day off today. I don’t look after Delaney and Jude on Mondays, and Elijah and Zeke are going to VBS all week. So, it’s just me and Noah…very nice.

I fell asleep last night smiling about how great my kids are. (Which, by the way, is how I sum up being a Mom - My days can be crazy and hectic, but by bedtime there is always something to smile about. Really…there is!) They’ve been so great in helping me look after Delaney and Jude. From Elijah reading Delaney a Winnie the Pooh book, (that’s her favorite) to Zeke giving Delaney a hug and a kiss when she gets a boo-boo, and even to Noah being entertained instead of jealous when I’m holding Jude. (He really thinks it’s funny!) They’re just the best!

Of course, I must tell you about the “incentive program” that I’ve come up with to encourage Elijah and Zeke to help out - for every day that they choose to help, they can each earn five dollars. (Now I think perhaps this is too high a wage, but once it was set I couldn’t change it!). So far this has been great; a simple question from me - “Elijah and/or Zeke, is that being helpful?” - is all it takes to make them stop and think, and I’m amazed at how often they choose the better way. And not only is this a good way to teach them to have responsibility, we also had a great discussion over the weekend about money, tithing, saving and how the Lord provides all of our needs.

So…what started out as a job for me to provide some extra income for our family, has become a little “Summer School” for my two older boys! Awesome!

P.S. I really must post some photos of the Willcock kids. They’re so cute - they rival my own kids in their good looks!

Maestro Elijah

Elijah has composed his first piece of music. It’s not very long, but hey - you’ve gotta start somewhere…

In other news… yesterday I started looking after Delaney and Jude Willcock. Their parents - Dave and Vicki - are on the church staff with us. Delaney is two-and-a-half and Jude is nine months. Five children!  That’ll keep me occupied!

So - to all my faithful readers - my posts will most likely become fewer…I’m “busy, busy, dreadfully busy…” (I love that song)
