Something stange is happening to the way our website is displayed on our computer.  In trying to fix it, we deleted the last post along with the comments that were made on it.  Sorry!  Hopefully we’ll have things fixed soon, and I can rewrite the post, but I regret to say that the comments are gone…

“Everybody Promenade Two By Two”

Sunday, September 10th, 2006

Some friends of ours are adopting a little boy from China. They already have three boys (we have a lot of friends with three boys!) and had actually set out to adopt a girl, but in their search, they fell in love with a picture of a little boy with a cleft lip, and are now just weeks away (hopefully) from going to get him.

Anyway, last night they had a Barn Dance for a fundraiser, and I think it was the most fun I’ve ever had in my life! …Well, at least the most fun I’ve had in a while! We took a few pictures, but they in no way capture the mood of the party. It was just so…ummm…gleefull. Yes, gleefull is the perfect word to describe it! If you ever get a chance to square dance, and don’t want to, because you think it’s dorky, keep in mind that it’s loads of fun too!

Here is Heather (the “adopter”), with the “caller” – he’s the guy that gave the intructions for the square dance. He’s showing us how to do the “side swing”. I think that’s what it was called.

And here are Dave and I… I can’t remember what this move was called.  It was perfect weather for a Barn Dance too! Just a little nippy – I love fall in Minnesota!

We can’t wait to meet you Shun Li!

I’m Glad I Don’t Have A Minnesotan Accent…

We had some doubts about giving Noah the name Noah. The biggest one was that his name is actually Minnesotan for “no”. If you’ve ever seen the movie Fargo, then you’ll know what I mean, otherwise you’ll have to take my word for it.

Anyway, the word “no” has been paired with Noah’s name a lot as of late. Just in the last couple weeks he’s turned into an absolute stunt devil!

His Aunt Renee very approprietly gave him this shirt for his first birthday. It says, “I do all my own stunts” and if he’s not standing proudly in the middle of the table – as he is here – he’s teetering on the edge of our computer desk and banging on the keyboard, using our long, narrow coffee table as a balance beam, or jumping off the sofa. He’s a wild man! But a very cute wild man.

First Day Of First Grade!

Shortly before Elijah got on the bus today, he asked, “Are you going to put these pictures on our website?” “Yep.” I said. “Well,” he replied, after a moment of thought, “I think you should give it the title First Day of First Grade!” He loved the idea that the word first would appear twice!

Here is where the bus will pick Elijah up every day – at the Bethany flagpole. It’s just a short hike from our apartment. I love the school that Elijah is enrolled in. It starts 40 minutes later than most of the other schools in Bloomington, which makes for a very easy-going morning. Praise the Lord!

The bus finally arrived about 15 minutes late – which is to be expected on the first day of school. Elijah was so excited, but I could tell he was a little nervous as he climbed up into the bus and waved goodbye to me…

Most people think it makes my life easier to have Elijah at school, but it really doesn’t! He and Zeke play very well together, and when he isn’t here Zeke tends to get a little bored. It’s nice that Zeke will be going to preschool three mornings a week this year, but even so, it will take some effort on my part to keep him busy.

Oh, one more thing (and of course this would have to happen this morning!), it seems Noah wanted to add to the excitment of the day… as I was ironing Elijah’s shirt, I heard Noah awake in his bed, but wanted to finish up, and then get breakfast ready. He wasn’t crying, just talking to himself. After Dave got out of the shower, he went in and discovered that Noah had figured out how to remove his diaper! And not only that, after he removed his diaper he did his business! Yuck! So… I guess I should go disinfect his bed.
