Our 500th post! (I know this only because I happened to save this post without a title, and so it was labled “Post #500″.) Wow!
Anyway, you’re looking at photos of a gingerbread house that literally took us – well, mostly me - all day to make. “All day?” you ask. Yes, all day. It started this morning when I went out looking for plain, old-fashioned gumdrops. Nowhere to be found. I finally found some “gourmet” gumdrops at a fancy store, for an outrageous price, but…well…you need gumdrops on a gingerbread house, don’t you think? And besides, we only make one once a year.
And then, after a long afternoon of measuring, cutting and baking…and then more measuring, cutting and baking, the house was finally assembled and ready for the fun part – decorating! Of course, Elijah and Zeke pitched in to help with that…

Almost done…

Ta da! If you look closely you’ll see three adult gingerbread men (me, Dave and my mom) and the three kids. Cute!

Next year, I think I’ll just buy one of those kits…although, our house does smell like yummy gingerbread now!

Very impressive Janet! I don’t know anyone in my life that would make a gingerbread house from scratch, no wonder it took you all day!

Ha! You are funny Jill! I’m sure you know that’s supposed to be Dave. But Dave also thought he was freakishly bigger than everyone else. It didn’t look that much bigger when it was unbaked.

Great gingerbread house! I was just thinking about the gingerbread house that we made with Elijah and Zeke when you were home two years ago. Treasure this time because it goes by so fast, it seems like yesterday that I was making a gingerbread house with my kids.
I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas.

Wow. I have to agree that is an awesome gingerbread house AND I’ve never known anyone to make one from scratch. I amazed that you found the time to work on it. Bravo!

I’m astounded! I have trouble finding time to make a bowl of cereal this time of year, and you’ve made an amazing gingerbread house from scratch! That’s awesome! (Hey, where does that expression come from – to make something ‘from scratch’?)

Thanks everyone, for the accolades!
Another thing I wanted to mention: I wrote this post late last night when I was half asleep. This morning, upon reading the title – “Post #500″ – I started thinking, did the math, and figured out that there’s no way I could have written 500 posts since this past March (that’s when we started our blog). Not that any of you really care about how many posts I’ve written, but I just thought I’d set the record straight! I’m not sure where the #500 came from…

Allow me to bring clarity. Her blog entry was the 500th thing posted to the website not the 500th post. Things posted include: posts, pages, and comments.

Thanks for the family picture. And I, too, say that is an amazing gingerbread house. Better than Martha Stewart’s!
