“Me go a moon someday, Mummy.”
Well, if a gal can’t brag about her children, then what can she brag about? I do realize that the use of our family’s website to brag about my kids should be kept to a minimum, but this little piece of information is just too good not to share! We just received a letter informing us that our second grader was in the 99th percentile for mathmatics comprehension, and the 98th percentile for reading comprehension in the entire nation! Wow! I always knew he was brilliant, but now…now I have proof.
We haven’t had the greatest fall around these parts this year. It’s been soggy and cold for the past week, but this past Saturday, was a perfect, beautiful, sunny fall day. We ”seized the day,” and had a lovely time at an apple orchard just south of us.
Maybe this isn’t the case, but it always seems to me and Dave that we are the loudest family where ever we go, often causing quite a ruckus. (Or maybe every family feels this way? Anyone care to share?)Sometimes we earn smiles from those around us, sometimes frowns. In any case, this is difficult for l’il ol’ me, who prefers to to go incognito! But it seems our three boys have Daddy’s personality – they love attention, and…embarrassed?…What does that mean? Oh dear.
So, our trip to the apple orchard was no different. The first big event was this…

This caused quite a gathering of kids, the capture of this little fellow. Of course, the fact that Elijah hollered at the top of his lungs, “Hey, look what we found!” may have helped too.
Then, when a goose decided to venture out of it’s little pen, Noah thought it wanted to play tag. He chased the poor thing until it frantically waddled back to the small hole in the fence from whence it had come, making very loud protests the whole way. It was quite, um… entertaining.

And that wasn’t the end of it. There were loud discussions about who would sit where on the wagon ride, which pumpkin to buy, and, “Why do we have to get a plain caramel apple…can’t we get one with M&Ms on it…PLEASE?!” Sigh. Somebody…anybody…please say you know exactly where I’m coming from. Anybody?
Check out Elijah’s little library of books in his top-bunk…

It makes my heart so happy to see Elijah turning into such a little bookworm! (I tell him this all the time too.) Right now he’s really enjoying The Magic School Bus books. They’re fictional chapter books, but have a lot of science facts in them…perfect for second grade boys who love science!
Although I really don’t have enough time to read right now in life, there was a time in my life – those adolescent years – when the ability to enjoy reading was such a blessing. In some ways, I believe it was a lifesaver. Among other things, being able to escape into a good book during my teens saved me from escaping into some other less, um… ”choice” teenage activities. I’ve also heard that research indicates that teenagers who read do indeed stay out of trouble. I’m hoping that Elijah’s beginning love of reading will grow with him into his teens!
I just found a copy of the first Harry Potter book in our campus Sally Ann, and plan on reading it soon. Elijah has been asking about reading the Harry Potter books, and while I think it will be many years before he’ll be mature enough to even possibly read them, I figured I’d get a head start on deciding if they’ll be suitable reading material for him one day. And, I have to admit, I’ve always been curious about the controversy surrounding them. I’d love to hear your opinion about the Harry Potter books, if you’ve read them.
Not all baby clothes are as cool as Phoebe’s corduroy skirt, and polka dot tights. Wouldn’t you agree that some - baby girls’ clothes in particular - are just a little bit…um, dorky? Don’t get me wrong…I’m truly reveling in all the pink and mauve and ribbons and bows and flowers, but I find it interesting that, unlike baby boys, we often dress baby girls in clothes that grown women would never wear.

So, in case you’re wondering, you’ll probably never see me in a dress with pink flowers and ruffles, and matching tam. (I’m still looking for some polka dot tights though.)

“Ahhh…it feels so good to be in the country again!” said Elijah upon arriving at his cousin Ruthie’s first birthday/Thanksgiving celebration.
