All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth!

It looks like Elijah may actually get a new set of front teeth for Christmas this year!  At long last, he lost one of his top front teeth, and it looks like the other isn’t far behind.  About time!  He’s the only kid in his second grade class without permanent front teeth.  This is even more bewildering to me since he’s also one of the oldest in his class (here in Minnesota kids need to be five before September first to start kindergarten).  Wierd.  At any rate, I’m so excited for those permanent pearly whites to make their appearance!

The tooth fell out this morning, about 20 minutes before he left for school, and as he was walking out the door he exclaimed, “Oh no!  I can’t chew my fingernails anymore!  What am I gonna do?”

(Could it be?  The end to that yucky habit that he’s had since he was a toddler?  Probably not.  Dave still chews his.  I can hope though.)

Elijah was happy to discover that he could still do this though.

    Priceless…the whistling. Aidan hasn’t lost a tooth either. Maybe it’s a genetic thing…

And, Aidan bits his fingernails, too… :(

Yeah, Dave and I were discussing this morning when he lost his first tooth, but he couldn’t quite remember. I was pretty average, but my sister, Jill, was really late like Elijah. It probably is genetic…that’s what we’ve told Elijah anyway! It seems to put his mind at ease.

Both of my kids have been late in losing teeth. Duncan was the only one in Kindergarten that hadn’t lost any, and then finally, like with 2 weeks to go, he lost his first one. Grace began 2nd grade without her 2 front teeth (I love her school picture last year, with her space clearly showing!) but was one of the last ones in her class to have lost them. Ruth on the other hand got her first tooth the week before she turned 1. If that’s any indication as to when she’ll lose them, she’ll be late too. I know my teeth grew in late, so I can only assume I lost them late too. When I went to the dentist right before leaving for Bethany as a freshman, I asked if my wisdom had started to come in yet, to which he responded, “No, your 12 year molars aren’t fully in yet.” Just what every 19 year old wants to hear.
