The kids got an early Christmas present in the mail yesterday…some hand-knit mittens from their Aunt Bev! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
On the package it said, “Open Now,” and I’m so glad it did. I mean, let’s be realistic…opening a pair of mittens on Christmas morning is usually not a highlight. It tends to get kind of overshadowed by all the other “stuff.” This morning, though, when I showed Elijah and Zeke the mittens, they were pretty impressed that someone had spent time making something just for them. “She made them?” said Elijah. “How long do you think it took her?” Zeke put them on and said, “Oh wow, they feel really good…so new!”
And as you can see from the picture, the mittens came just in time too. Winter is here! We got about four inches over the weekend, and we’re getting more today. Yay! We’re due for a really good snowy winter…the past few winters here have been pretty pathetic in terms of snowfall. And the boys love the snow so much. They went out after dark last night, and found a pair of boys to have a snowball fight with! They came back bragging about their supposed win. The other two boys – Gus and Ben – are a few years older than them though, and I suspect that they just let them think that they had won! Cute.
