Link-O-Rama
Well, hello there! I know, I kind of left y’all hangin’ for the last half of last week. I got buried under a mountain of old photos.
But I do have something to show for it; I can’t wait to see my photobook form Shutterfly! It’ll be so great to have the highlights from our past year in print. I wish I could send you all a copy. Dave, though, has done the next best thing and has made a little slideshow with many of the photos I used in the photobook. It’s set to a great song too, Phil Wickham‘s Beautiful.
I have a few other links to share with you all as well. One is a sermon Dave preached last Sunday evening at the BHOP Forerunner Gathering – Establishing a Gathering Culture – and I, personally, think he did an amazing job! The sermon is an hour long (I know! …Go Dave!) so you may prefer to listen to this 15 minute segment, the crux, I do believe, of the message. You will definitely be challenged! Perhaps it will convince you once and for all that those “nutty Horsmans” are nuttier than ever
…or maybe his message will ring true in your spirit. Either way, you’ll gain a better understanding (I think) of why were doing what we’re doing. And I may as well link you to his sermon notes, too, for the complete package.
A couple more. This article, written by a mother of a son with autism was so enlightening for me. Just…wow. I will never again mindlessly judge a parent for what seems like their lack of discipline to their child/children in public.
Finally, here’s one by Randy Bohlender, a post he did a last week in response to a commenters very blunt question about how he and his wife can justify asking people to fund their latest adoption when they are putting money into their new house. The commenter wasn’t pushy or rude, just asked an honest question…and I love how Randy responds! I, for one, am thankful for that commenters question, which forced Randy to articulate his thoughts about, what he calls, the ‘new paradigm of adoption.’ So good. A must read.
P.S. Oops! I almost forgot these two:

"Who IS This Gorgeous Family?"
Phoebe, enjoying her favorite book, a photobook full of photos of our family. She especially loves the pictures of the “bebe.”
Are you like me? Do you have thousands of digital pictures stored on your computer? We had to get an external hard-drive to store all of ours! And I believe another will soon be in order.
I’m a terrible procrastinator when it comes to developing photos though…sadly. Shutterfly is doing a ‘free shipping’ promotion for the next few days, and I figure a deadline would do me some good, so…to the photo archives I go!
For Uncle Todd And Aunt Jill
“Noah!!! Give it! GIVE! ME! THAT! NOW! I got that monster truck last Christmas in Canada at a store called Giant Tiger and it is very valuable to me!”
Longhorns vs. Gophers
March Madness is here again. Hip hip hooray. (And if you know me even a little, you’ll probably know that I say that very facetiously.) It’s not just that I don’t like basketball, (or any other sport for that matter) …it’s more like I really don’t get it. I can’t get it. I’ve tried to. Really, I have. Mostly because it’s something that Dave really enjoys… but all I end up doing is trying to concentrate really hard on a bunch of guys running around, up and down a court, sometimes throwing a ball at a hoop. And it’s not that I don’t understand the rules, either; I actually played basketball in Jr. High. (!) …It’s almost like I don’t have the right mental capacity to “digest” watching it. I’m sportsmindedly challenged, I guess. I know, I’m weird.
Anyway, Elijah is totally into March Madness this year. Evidence, I think, of the gravitational pull that young boys his age have towards their fathers. It’s cute. Dave likes it too, and enjoys having someone to watch with, but he also has to endure Elijah’s constant chatter. Like, here are some samples that I overheard during the Minnesota/Texas game last night:
“Well, normally a longhorn could take on a gopher no problem…but not tonight!”
“I think a basket made from the other side of the court should be worth at least six points.”
“#4 is always usually my least favorite player on any team. For instance. Brett Favre is #4.”
“I can’t believe Minnesota is losing. Now my bracket is all messed up.” Zeke, upon hearing this, says, “Just change it.”
For some reason – probably that I was overtired – this little boy talk struck me as so funny, and I went to bed giggling hysterically about it. Life is good. And who knows? Maybe I may actually start to enjoy March Madness… How could I dislike something that makes me laugh?
The Red Envelope Project
Have you heard of The Red Envelope Project yet? Pure genius! Simple, direct and profound. If you want to know more about how it started click on the link above, but here is all you have to do to be involved:
1. Get a red envelope (or two or three…or 100!). You can buy them at Kinkos or Party supply stores, and here is a link where you can buy 100 for just $13!
2. On the front address it to:
President Barack Obama
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Ave. N.W.
Washington, D.C.
20500
3. On the back write the following message: This envelope represents one child who died in abortion. It is empty because that life was unable to offer anything to the world. Responsibility begins with conception.
4. Put it in the mail on March 31st. And let others know about this project! Hopefully, 50 million will be sent, one for each life that has ended in abortion since Roe v. Wade.
I can’t help but imagine what the President will be thinking and feeling as these red envelopes start coming in! Will he be angry? Annoyed? Convicted? Indifferent? Regardless of his reaction, our president’s very glib attitude towards the unborn, needs to be confronted with the truth of what abortion really is. It is not a personal choice or simply “ending a pregnancy.” It is violently and cruelly taking another person’s life. Yes, this man who has so flippantly stated that ”it is above his pay grade” to discuss the lives of the unborn truly needs a wake-up call. He can hit the snooze button if he wants to, but somebody has to set that alarm clock! (Ezekiel 2:3-7)
And, seriously? …Your pay grade, Mr. President? Your PAY GRADE?!! Appalling.
Technical Difficulties
Well, sorry, but our very capricious Internet connection isn’t being very helpful today. I’m not able to post that after photo of the haircuts. Bummer! Hopefully things will be back to normal by tomorrow…
It’s a delightful day here though! Phoebe, Noah and I just got back in from a walk in the warm sunshine. We built dams in the runoff, avoided housework, listened to birds singing, avoided housework, splashed in puddles…reflected on how a crow’s caw kind of sounds like the sound a monkey makes… Noah pointed this out and, I must say, it really does! Imagine living almost 32 years and never noticing such a thing!
Phoebe summed up best, I think, how it felt to be lazily strolling around outside this morning. As she took big strides and swung her arms vigorously, she said in a sing-song voice, “A-happy, happy, happy!…A-happy, happy, happy!”
Will The Church Be Going Through The Tribulation?
In a previous post on EatTheScroll.net, I put forward the idea that we are living in or near the final generation of this age. If that is true and if we (or even our kids) are going to be living through the Book of Revelation then we should be preparing to do so. Jesus said in His letter to the church of Sardis, “Therefore if you will not watch, I will come upon you as a thief, and you will not know what hour I will come upon you.” (Rev. 3:3) Some may say, “We will be raptured before the Great Tribulation so I don’t need to prepare to live through Revelation, right?
