A Printing Press to Rival Gutenbergs

Did you know that a German guy named Johannes Gutenberg started the printing revolution by inventing the printing press in the mid-1400s? These are the types of things you learn when you homeschool your kids.  All sorts of very, very important information that you either didn’t learn…or forgot you learned.

Anywhoo…this year, as part of the virtual public school that we’re a part of, we received a printer/scanner with all of our school supplies.  (Why? you ask.  Because we need to submit monthly work samples. Kind of a pain, but it’s actually good for me to have outside accountability!) I managed to conceal the fact that it was, in fact, a scanner until just a couple days ago.  How Elijah finally discovered that it was a scanner, I do not know, but ever since he’s been sketching, scanning, reproducing and selling comics of “Flame Man.” Yes…selling.  You’d be surprised how many college students are a sucker for a cute kid with homemade merchandise…

Drawing Lessons For Phoebe

IMG_5496 (Custom)Phoebe drew her first successful face today under Elijah’s tutalage.  Elijah was a proud teacher and Phoebe a proud student…and I was a proud mother.  :-)

A Birthday, An Anniversary And A Clue

Here’s a little of what’s been happening around here lately…

Our Sweet P Turned two on June 11th.  We had a delightful little party out on our front lawn with all of our “campus family” for her special day.  Phoebe was so tickled about the whole thing!  It was really adorable.  Dave made a little video encapsulating the whole day…

(It took my sister in Toronto watching this video for me to realize that Phoebe uses her left hand a lot. I’m tentatively excited! I so want to have a “south paw!”)

Another exciting event: Dave and I celebrated our 11th aniversary on the 12th. We even got to get away overnight thanks to Naomi, who bravely stayed overnight with our kids. Thanks Naomi! The kids have been saying they want to see you again soon. :-)

And here’s a little picture riddle for you to figure out.  Friday morning was spent at a table outside playing with some playdough that Phoebe got for her birthday.  Can you guess what these two playdough figures, one made by Elijah, the other by Zeke, were all about?

Magnadoodle Dave

Just having fun with one of my – er…  I mean, Noah’s – favorite presents from this past Christmas.

Oh, and while I’m on the topic of Christmas presents, check this out…

Remember what Zeke asked Santa for?  Isn’t that hilarious?  A Segway!  It’s one of the game pieces in the new Electronic Banking Monopoly that we got Elijah and Zeke for Christmas. (Which, by the way, I love that they’re totally able to play by themselves, without the confusion of all the paper money.  And it goes without saying who gets dibs on the Segway gamepiece!)   Zeke said, “Well, I guess I didn’t say exactly what kind of Segway I wanted.”
