All things Horsman

Happy Blog Birthday to Me!

Yes…five years ago today this blog had its very humble beginnings. I love taking time to sit and dig through my blog’s archives.  It’s such a treat.  Some posts make me weepy, many – thankfully! – remind me of random moments long forgotten, and still others stun me with the audacity I must have had to write them.  All inspire me to keep on blogging. I’m so very thankful that so many precious memories and thoughts are stored here.

Now…all that being said, I do realize that I’ve been quite the delinquent blogger these days.  I’ve seriously lost my blogging mojo.  Just before we transitioned to this new, free website (Wait… who am I kidding?  There was no “we,” Dave did the transitioning for me.  Thank you, Dave!) I was actually contemplating ending my blogging journey.  The witty, one sentence “updates” that we all give and get via twitter and facebook are clearly where it’s at these days, right?  This had been my train of thought lately.  I felt like my blog ship had sailed and that it was now time to let it sail off into the sunset.  *sniff, sniff*

Something in the blog world still beckons me, though.  Maybe it’s simply the scrapbook-y-ness of it all?  The fact that I’m preserving family memories.  And things like this…

…just beg to be shared.  (She’s such a cutie.)

Or is it that I feel like I have something to “say?”  Hmmmm…  Don’t know.  I do know that I must keep blogging.  I will, I will, I will.

Here’s to the next five years!

Lots of Snow…

I’m very thankful for all the fluffy white stuff that was dumped on us this past weekend.  Outdoor recess is essential to this homeschooling mom’s sanity.

P.S.  My secret for making them stay out longer than it takes to get snowsuited up?  ”Remember boys, when you come back in, you have your language arts to work on.”

All Dressed Up With a Free Place to Go

Hooray for free stuff!  Like 5 free tickets to The Children’s Theatre’s latest production, “The 5oo Hats of Bartholemew Cubbins.” Dave and the four oldest Horsman kiddos enjoyed a night on the town last Friday evening, while Ellie and I [very happily and thankfully, I might add] enjoyed the sound of silence here at home.

Touchdown!

Ya know what’s fun?  Watching your kids play sports.  It really, actually is. I’m surprised at how entertaining it is.  This fall we signed Elijah and Zeke up for flag football and then, just a few days before it began, Dave got talked into being their coach…

This past Saturday was just a perfect fall day for football.  The leaves here are just starting to turn and there was a delicious chill in the air.  It was also Grammie’s last Saturday here, and Elijah requested that she come and watch their game, so we all piled into our little silver van (Yes, little. Yours truly rode illegally on the floor of the van.  I know, I’m such a lawbreaker.) and headed over to the playfield.

It was an exciting game!  Elijah was headbutted in the stomach, and then limped away form this play…

Elijah is in the blue.  Most of those yellow-shirted lads collided with him! But he didn’t let that slow him down…

Look, there he is out front with the ball, almost to the endzone!

And here he is, touchdown complete, spiking the ball behind him.  It was classic.

And here is cheerleader Ellie.  She’s just started attempting to stand and she’s pretty proud of herself!  That little, snack sized Oreo cookie that you see in her hand, which she begged off of her brother, may also be why she’s smiling so proudly.
P.S.  I think I need a telephoto lens if I’m going to continue taking pictures of my kids playing sports, don’t you?  Hmmm…yeah, definitely.  How I wish I could have zoomed in closer for Elijah’s touchdown!

The Great Minnesota Get Together Part Deux

Here, again, are a few more snapshots from our day at the State Fair that I just think are too good not to share…

Our first stop was the “All You Can Drink Milk for $1″  The milk flows like water from taps!  It’s SO good.  Ice cold and refreshing.

The Little Farm Hands Exhibit is always great fun.  Kids pretend to work on a farm and then trade in their goods at the market.

I have a photo of Elijah and Zeke riding these same tractors…somewhere.  (I’m having a digital photo storage crisis, my friends.)

Over-priced amusement park rides…

Elijah and Zeke are up there somewhere!

This was super-cute.  Elijah hurt his leg on the big, wavy slide.  His left foot wasn’t on the burlap sack, and it caught on the metal slide and flipped him around.  Ouch!  (Dave even got it on video)  He was having a hard time walking, and Zeke helped him for a while.

Phoebe the Dancing Queen.  We came across a blue-grass band playing some sweet tunes and Phoebe put on quite the show for the audience gathered around to listen to them.  There was a make-shift dance floor of plywood in front of the stage and she lost no time in making that the stage and taking the center of it.  That girl’s got rhythm!

Zeke had to get a souvenier.  Which was fine…except that he is the king of indecision.  He finally settled on getting one from Choo-Choo Bob’s, an exhibit that he and Elijah and Daddy spent a lot of time at while I was at the Little Farm Hands one with the two other kids.

Cotton-Candy, of course.

And cheese curds.

And a big bucket of fresh, crispy cookies.  Which of course we brought over to the milk stand.

Mmmm…I’m getting hungry.  Better go cook something for supper.  How do banana muffins sound?  That’s what’s on the menu. :-)
