This weekend Elijah successfully participated in his fourth piano recital! Pretty impressive, if you ask me. Video footage of his performance of “Feelin’ Good” is on it’s way, I promise.

Here’s a cute photo of Elijah’s piano teacher with all her pupils. (Elijah is just to the right of her.) Solveig (pronounced Sol-vay) is an absolute gem! We’re very thankful for her grandmotherly love for Elijah, and for her ability to motivate him when he needs it!

Well, hello there! I know, I kind of left y’all hangin’ for the last half of last week. I got buried under a mountain of old photos. But I do have something to show for it; I can’t wait to see my photobook form Shutterfly! It’ll be so great to have the highlights from our past year in print. I wish I could send you all a copy. Dave, though, has done the next best thing and has made a little slideshow with many of the photos I used in the photobook. It’s set to a great song too, Phil Wickham‘s Beautiful.

I have a few other links to share with you all as well. One is a sermon Dave preached last Sunday evening at the BHOP Forerunner Gathering – Establishing a Gathering Culture – and I, personally, think he did an amazing job! The sermon is an hour long (I know! …Go Dave!) so you may prefer to listen to this 15 minute segment, the crux, I do believe, of the message. You will definitely be challenged! Perhaps it will convince you once and for all that those “nutty Horsmans” are nuttier than ever …or maybe his message will ring true in your spirit. Either way, you’ll gain a better understanding (I think) of why were doing what we’re doing. And I may as well link you to his sermon notes, too, for the complete package.

A couple more. This article, written by a mother of a son with autism was so enlightening for me. Just…wow. I will never again mindlessly judge a parent for what seems like their lack of discipline to their child/children in public.

Finally, here’s one by Randy Bohlender, a post he did a last week in response to a commenters very blunt question about how he and his wife can justify asking people to fund their latest adoption when they are putting money into their new house. The commenter wasn’t pushy or rude, just asked an honest question…and I love how Randy responds! I, for one, am thankful for that commenters question, which forced Randy to articulate his thoughts about, what he calls, the ‘new paradigm of adoption.’ So good. A must read.

A Story And A Song

Well, just when I thought it was safe to start blogging in full force again, we had amazing, summer-like weather last week, and all I and the l’il ones could do was wonder around out in the beautiful sunshine.

Anyway, here are a couple things that captured my attention when I wasn’t outside. I’ve been following this story since last weekend. The Bohlenders just adopted two beautiful little baby girls! They’re part of IHOP-KC, were at the Call, and Kelsey, the wife, gave a testimony of how the Lord called them into adoption a couple of years ago. It really impacted Dave and me. Last weekend, when they heard of newborn twin girls that we’re going to be placed into the Florida state foster care system, they dropped everything, flew to Florida, and did everything in their power to gain possession of them. It’s an amazing story of redemption…a picture of God going out of his way to rescue us. Beautiful. Check out their site. And while you’re there, consider donating to their adoption fund!

One of the funnest parts of my work is being able to host different worship leaders. I learn a lot from my time with them. This past weekend was one of those opportunities. Jared Anderson from Colorado was in town to do worship for a weekend mini-conference we called IGNITE. Usually, they bring bands with them but this time Jared came alone so I put together a band for him. And naturally since I was in charge, I put myself on acoustic guitar! It was a blast. We played Saturday night and Sunday morning. I put a little bootleg video of the night from some footage that Elijah (and Janet) shot on our YouTube page. You should, definitely, check it out. Listen for the segment that Janet tells Elijah that he can’t take his shirt off.

Maestro Zeke

Janet, Mina, Noah, and I had the privilege of watching Zeke perform at his preschool today. The program was filled with lots of children’s songs and carols. Happy Birthday to Jesus, Little Miss Muffett (starring Zeke as the spider), and the March from the Nutcracker were the highlights. Here is the March. It rocked!

In The Bleak Mid-Winter

Yesterday I was fretting over the Christmas Eve service, wanting it to be something special for the people who would be attending. So my brother, Jon, said that if I want “special” than In The Bleak Mid-Winter was my ticket to ride. I trust my big brother. A Good Laugh

I wanted to let you all see me in one of my favorite positions…directing a choir. It is something I have done 3 times now since I started working at Bethany. I crack myself up each and every time because I used to make fun of my dad as he directed the church choir each Christmas and Easter. So now at each graduation, I direct the grads in their class song. This time, which was in September, they sang “How Great Is Our God”. Luckily, you can’t see my face.

…I certainly wouldn’t be flying on Air Canada Jazz!

Steven, from the Barenaked Ladies, got off the plane yestereday with my mother! He sat directly in front of her on the flight, and his friend (whom I didn’t recognize) sat beside her, all the while conversing with “Steve.” Nobody seemed to recognize him though. I guess Canadian celebrities come to the U.S., when they want to go incognito. He was standing right beside us at the baggage claim, and I may have said something like, “Hey, a lot of people say my husband looks like you!” had Noah not been acting like a royal b-r-a-t. He did seem a little interested in my kids, which got me to thinking, “I wonder if he has kids?” So I looked him up and you know what? He does – three boys!

Playing In The Park

On Wednesday night after supper, we went to the park to see if Elijah could indeed beat Janet at a foot race. Elijah had been trash talking Janet all through supper about it. Elijah won. A beautiful night of family bonding followed, but, unfortunately, the foot race was left on the cutting room floor. A note about the soundtrack: I was all set to use a cute worship song, Tim Hughes’, “Joy Is In This Place”, but Elijah thought it was not a great choice. He felt The Counting Crows, “Angels Of The Silence”, captured the mood much better, and in the end, I agreed.
