Seasonal Pets

Tis the season to bring home any little critter you can find. We’ve had a turtle, some kidnapped baby birds – which I ordered my eldest to “Put back!” – lots of earthworms, and my favorite, little green inch worms…

They’re very photogenic.

And here is the story of the critter that got away…

The other day I came outside to find Noah almost 15 feet up a tree, precariously teetering on a flimsy branch and poking a stick down a knothole in an attempt to capture the baby squirrel within. Crazy little boy! As I approached the tree to tell him to “get down before he broke his neck,” the poor baby squirrel came scurrying out of it’s hole and ran furiously around the tree trunk a couple times, almost setting Noah off balance. Elijah and Zeke, standing at the base of the tree, thought this was hilarious. I, on the other hand, did not. All I could picture was Noah plummeting to his death.

Boys. I’m sure they must have 3 or 4 guardian angels as opposed to the one that a little girl probably has!

I’ve told Noah to stick to catching inchworms as pets.

Triathlon 4 Orphans

Have you heard about the Triathlon 4 Orphans? Most likely you have. In the off chance, though, that you have not, here’s the scoop:

My husband, Dave, is preparing to do a triathlon on July 9th! Monumental, right? But not only is he doing a triathlon, he’s raising money for Olive Tree Adoptions, a ministry of our church, while doing a triatlon. Awesome! A Triathlon 4 Orphans.

For a few years now, ever since attending The Call in August 2008, my and Dave’s hearts have been moved towards adoption. We don’t know how or when but we’ve been certain that adoption is in our future ever since that summer three years ago.

It was so encouraging to us then, when so many hearts in our church family were stirred in the very same way. And so exciting when the framework for an adoption agency (one that would make adoption easier and more affordable to adoptive families) began to fall into place.

So, back to the triathlon. Dave’s been running and swimming, swimming and biking, and running some more for weeks now. He’s shed 30 pounds too! He’s also gained over $1500.00 for Olive Tree Adoptions and is aiming for $3500.00 more. If you are interested in donating to the Triathlon 4 Orphans follow this link. (You’ll be able to find more info about the triathlon specifics and how you can “stalk” him online there too.) Your money will go towards helping families adopt, and hopefully, soon, we will be one of those families! GIVE!

Elijah and Zeke’s Piano Recital

Here are the budding pianists all dressed up and ready to play their hearts out. Handsome, aren’t they? They did so well! Not perfect…but I’m so proud of how they carried themselves under pressure. They’re awesome. Here is a link to a video of them performing.

And it was so special that Grammie Potter was here from Canada for their recital…

Father’s Day Camping Trip Part II

Daddy’s off again, this time with the older boys. I guess they just couldn’t wait till “later in the summer.” Have fun boys!

(I have to say, that this weekend has seemed kind of like a Mother’s Day gift! A house with less kids is a house with less noise and chaos.)

Father’s Day Camping Trip

What fun! A bunch of dads at our church organized a camping trip for this weekend. (Elijah and Zeke opted to stay home, since they were much older than any of the kids going, in favor of having a longer trip with a couple of their friends later this summer.) Phoebe and Noah were so excited!

Hockey Night in the Canadians’ Apartment

Elijah and Zeke had a few of their friends over last night for the final hockey game of the season. Ironically, my mum, the only “real” Canadian (She’s here visiting from Canada for the next two weeks. Yay!) amongst the hockey fans pictured here, was rooting for Boston. And actually, so was I! “Why?” you ask.  My oldest brother, Todd, has always been a Bruins fan, and so we always were as well.  Elijah, Zeke and Dave, though, cheered for the Canucks. It’s always good fun to watch sports with opposing fans together, eh? (See, I’m still a Canadian.)

The Birthday Girl…

Being given her bike…

Getting ready for her tea party…

Riding her new bike with her party clothes on…

Waiting for her tea party…

And what a party it was! SO fun! (I’m allowed to prefer little girl parties over little boy parties, right? ‘Cause they are so much easier.) Here are some highlights…

Handsome servers…

Sipping on some pink lemonade…

Fruit Loop necklaces…

A game of “Pass the Hot Tea Cup”…

And most of all lots of fun with lots of good friends!

P.S. Dave and I celebrated 13 years of marriage yesterday! Wow! Also, here is the link to our photos from last weekend’s family photo shoot. They are so amazing. What a great anniversary gift!

Get Me Out of Here!

Ellie is chalk full of mischief. And determination. And spunk. And fight. Oh my. She thinks she’s the boss. It could be funny…if she was somebody else’s kid.

Most recently, she’s been all about getting outside. All. The. Time. She’s escaped a few times, too, courtesy of our deck door being forgotten open by older siblings. Terrifying! And she just runs off helter skelter without a backwards glance. Mmm hmm, she’s chalk full of adventure, too!

She can usually be persuaded to play at the park across the way, though, so long as she can rub some dirt on her cheeks…

Seriously, this is how Ellie’s face looks after every visit to the park. I really don’t know how she manages to do this. I should probably watch her more closely, right? Trips to the park, though, often involve adult conversation, a deficiency in life right now, so…

Well, you get the idea. :-)
